Information technology would be very helpful and courteous to review a recipe made EXACTLY the mode information technology is written. It is non beneficial at all to read how you rated your ain recipes using another person's name. Marie, your recipe made as written, is excellent. Cheers!

THIS IS AWESOME. Beau and I couldn't believe it! I modified the recipe based on other people'south comments. Everyone was maxim to add together Montreal Steak Seasoning, which I didn't have. So I looked it up and it's basically comprised of pepper, salt, and paprica. For the rub i combined 1 Tbsp each of kosher salt, crushed peppercorns (i crushed), and paprika. I also added about 1 tsp. of garlic powder. This I rubbed on the meat and sprayed a little olive oil over top. To the pot, i added 3 big chopped carrots, 6 or so small cerise potatoes (chopped), an onion, and one-half a container of small fresh mushrooms. Additionally, I added 2 bay leaves, about a tsp. of worshire sauce, and the onion soup mix along with the water. Didn't have celery. SUPER SPICE-A-RIFIC!!! Enjoy!

I take cooked a lot of roast in my 24-hour interval and this is the ONLY time it has come out perfect! I didn't add any vegetables with it except for cutting an onion in half and setting it on peak of the roast for the final iii hours of cooking time. I fabricated mashed potatoes and green beans split, just don't like my potatoes to gustation like anything except potatoes. I also whisked 2 teaspoons of cornstarch with i/ii loving cup water and added to the au jus that I transfered to a sausepan. I boiled the au jus mixture for about 5 minutes, whisking often, for a wonderful brown gravy. I was tempted to not melt information technology equally long as the recipe calls for, merely please just permit it cook and proceed check on the liquid level. Roast cooked this way just melts in your oral cavity! Thanks for sharing your talent!

why do people have a recipe and turn it into some other totally differtn recipe using it as a review? Simply create a new recipe.

This was fabulous. I took a few reviewers advice and soaked the roast in red wine vinegar over night. I made a rub with pepper, salt, lemon pepper and freshly minced garlic and and so browned the roast on all sides. I was using my female parent-in-law's roaster and it didn't accept low, med and high so I fix it to about 200 degrees for 8.5 hours. I added the onion soup mix, some onion, lots of garlic, carrots, some celery we needed to get rid of and 2 potatoes. We served it with Sky High Yorkshire Pudding (allrecipes.com) which was great! We also had garlic mashed potatoes and an piece of cake light-green salad. This was an AT recipe and we'll employ information technology again!

Great recipe, but I browned the meat on all sides after seasoning the roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning prior to putting it in the slow cooker. This added great depth of flavor to the meat and the finished gravy. I omitted the potatoes from the slow cooker, and oven roasted them instead with olive oil, salt/pepper and whole garlic cloves during the concluding hr of cooking the roast. A crispy contrast to the luscious gravy. My family loved this meal!
12/05/2003
Very, very good--the only thing I did dissimilar is added a couple beef bouillon cubes and more water so that I could brand lots of gravy. I even chopped up the left over roast put information technology back in the tiresome cooker and fabricated a stew with it--it was groovy! Thank you Marie!
08/12/2011
I followed the recipe exactly and was a fleck disappointed. I had high hopes starting out but the end upshot was rather banal. Don't go me incorrect, the meat was nice and tender, the veggies yummy (a fiddling mushy, but a good mushy), and there was plenty of gravy. Nevertheless it needed season, also searing the meat with salt and pepper didn't do anything for it. What I would do adjacent fourth dimension is sear the meat with Worcestershire, olive oil, and a trivial butter. So after I put the meat into the crock-pot with veggies on top of the meat. I would deglaze the pan with a mix of either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon and beef stock. And then I would pour the liquid with pan drippings into the crock-pot. I'grand not sure if I would employ the onion soup mix or non, I think that would depend on the users personal preference.

Really enjoyed this, my construction working fiance & his friends practically inhaled this! I did replace the water with beer and added a piddling beef boullion... my bloke was overjoyed to find a new way to get beer into his system and information technology gave information technology an amazing flavor! In that location were no leftovers at all.
09/sixteen/2008
I used this equally a starting indicate to learning how to make a corking roast. The starting time fourth dimension I followed the recipe. The 2nd time I tweaked it subsequently reading the reviews. NOW, I have created a masterpiece. This is how I do it:Brand sure you use a Chuck roast first of all. And then, brown the meat with table salt, pepper, garlic/onion as desired. Then, place in slow cooker. Deglaze the pan with a petty beef goop then add information technology and addtional can to boring cooker (total 2 cans of beefiness broth). Pour 1 envelope of dry out onion soup mix on top, and i tBLsp of Worceshire sauce on top of the meat. Cook on low for 8hrs. After 6 hrs. add quartered red potatoes and carrots to the slow cooker. When done information technology will exist falling autonomously so remove from irksome cooker carefully. Brand gravy by using broth and flour/cornstarch/water mixture and heating to just humid in divide saucepan stirring constantly till desired thickness is acheived. Yum!
04/28/2013
To all the reviewers that said "It was delicious, But I modified the recipe by calculation this or changing this". In one case y'all modify anything about an original recipe, you are no longer cooking the recipe but a new recipe that will taste nothing like that one.
09/29/2008
For those of you that want a thicker gravy, add flour and onion (for season) when you are browning the meat. Browning the meat gives it a dainty color and there will be no boosted steps at the end for a thicker gravy. I find that beef broth gives a "tinny" taste. Using chicken goop lets the gustatory modality of the beef shine through. I utilize chicken broth forth with a nice dry cerise wine. Retrieve that when adding vino, do not add a wine that is too fruity or has been "oaked" (unremarkably older wines). The long cooking time will concentrate any fruit, oak or other flavors that the vino has. Also when adding vegetables, add them about halfway through the cooking fourth dimension and NOT in the beginning. Succulent!
11/10/2008
Autumn apart TENDER! I've been making this recipe for many years (earlier this was even added). There's no need to brownish roast first! No demand for the common salt! THE ONION SOUP MIX HAS ENOUGH Salt IN Information technology ALONE! Listen- Just throw the roast in the crock, just place carrots around information technology, (Use the cutting up potatoes for mashed, information technology just goes much better with the tender roast!)embrace elevation of roast with onion soup mix and then TOP WITH Foam OF MUSHROOM SOUP. You'll meet it'south just splendid!
04/xv/2009
In combination of several suggestions in the reviews, this was merely the MOST Delicious AND TENDER roast I have always tasted (it was besides my first time making one)! Here'south what I did... I sliced a 2½ lb boneless beefiness chuck pot roast into 4 large serving pieces. It didn't have much fat so no trimming was necessary. In a deep dish, I rubbed all sides with steak seasoning, fresh ground black pepper, coarse kosher salt, and almost 2+ tablespoons ready-to-utilise minced garlic and so poured about one+ tablespoon balsamic vinegar and Worcestershire sauce on top turning the meat to glaze. While that saturday, I sliced upwards a yellow onion then browned the meat on all sides with the onion in extra virgin olive oil. Transferred the meat (including all the juices in the pan) to my slow cooker, added 1 cup beefiness broth, ane+ tablespoon minced garlic, ¼ packet of onion soup mix (leftover from making dip), fresh ground pepper, garlic table salt, oregano, marjoram, thyme, and paprika. Covered and set to low for 6-eight hours. Just about 2 hours before it was done, I added whole babe carrots, chunks of celery, ruddy onion, and mushrooms. Instead of adding potatoes, I fabricated mashed potatoes and brown gravy from the juices. The original recipe is a adept "base". Just be creative and utilize your spices!
03/17/2011
I accept prepared my pot roasts this mode quite a few times now, and am finally getting around to reviewing the recipe! Sometimes I add together a teaspoon or two of Better than Burgoo beefiness base, a clove or ii of minced garlic, or apply beef broth rather than water, just the basic recipe always remains the same, and e'er turns out succulent. I had planned on making this today, actually. I bought my beef in bulk from a local farmer who raises grass-fed cows for the first fourth dimension ever, and was so excited to pop my start grass-fed roast into the crock pot this morning! I defrosted it, unwrapped information technology, and then realized it was actually a 7-os chuck roast. Non a boneless chuck roast. I had already defrosted it, and then I went ahead and browned it, so tried to stuff it in my crock pot. No such luck. It wasn't going to fit. Then, it sat in my refrigerator in my covered roasting pan "marinating" in the onion soup mix and h2o all day while I did some enquiry on how to melt a seven-bone roast in the oven. Simply in instance anyone wants to employ this type of cut, or finds themselves in a similar demark, here'south what I did: bake covered at 280 for 4 hours, adding the veggies at the last hour. The issue was autumn-off-the-os, slice-with-a-fork, melt in your oral cavity tender and absolutely delicious! Crock pot is good, merely this method produced a roast equally every bit skilful. The next "variation" I'm going to endeavour is to make my own onion soup mix from a recipe also here on AllRecipes. Can't wait!
02/xv/2011
Great base of operations recipe! I took the advice of others and browned my meat in olive oil but first I rubbed information technology with Montreal Steak Seasoning on all sides. I used a 1lb bag of carrots and virtually 5 carmine potatoes - skins left on, whole onion - sliced, and 2 stalks of celery. I used ii cups of water and boiled it on stove with two beefiness boullion cubes. I added the onion soup mix to the boiling beef broth and poured mixture over meat and veggies in crock pot. I also added almost one/4C worcestershire sauce. I added some garlice pepper & garlic table salt to the crock pot. Cooked on depression for 9 hours and meat was falling autonomously! I removed the roast from the crock pot and cut it upwardly then added corn starch mixed with cold h2o to the crock pot to thicken up the juices into a gravy. Everything was perfect!!
06/30/2010
adding my 2 cents! I did alter information technology based on other reviews...2 pkgs of o.s.m instead of ane, instead of water I used a one-half cup of beefiness broth and a one-half cup cooking vino, and I also threw in a tin can of cream of mush. soup....I know the point is to get away from a soup mix (cream soup that is) but I thought it was the all-time roast that I have e'er made!!! Oh one more than thing...I omited the potatoes and fabricated mashed instead! I know that people sometimes take something to say virtually people rating a recipe afterward they have added thier ain tweeks, but isint it what its kind of about?? getting ideas from others and tweeking them to adjust our own taste? I d k...Simply proverb give this a try! It is awesome! My veggies were perfectly cooked as directed in the recipe!
12/26/2010
MMM.... MMM.... MMM.... yummy! Yep that sum'southward it up. Stop reading all the reviews and but try it... your gonna love it.
09/26/2007
This is an erstwhile standby at my house. my mother fabricated this many times while I was growing up, and information technology was i of my favorite meals. My husband now loves this pot roast! I don't always brown the roast first, depending on how rushed I am that morn. The terminal time I fabricated this, I peeled and sliced the potatoes the night earlier and stored them in a ziplock bag with water. I placed the raw beefiness, seasonings, and onions in a crockpot liner sealed with a twist necktie and popped it in the fridge. The next morning, I just had to untie the crockpot liner and place it in the pot. I drained the potatoes and opened a bag of peeled babe carrots to add together to the pot. Like shooting fish in a barrel and succulent!
10/27/2007
Used a 3.5lb rump roast instead and it worked out amazingly!! The meat just fell apart and was full of flavour. I did alter the recipie as others suggested. Seasoned the beef with basis pepper & garlic common salt. Added a can of beefiness broth and a few dashes of worcestershire sauce to recipe. I also added mushrooms during last 4 hours of cooking. At the stop, took out all the veg and thickend the sauce with flour. Used more potatoes then what recipe called for and omitted the celery. Best roast I ever fabricated!! Very tastey.
ten/14/2005
This is a staple in my house...we LOVE information technology! I use garlic salt and pepper, and Lipton Beefy Onion soup mix. I likewise use baby carrots and sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes. I add together a can of beef goop to ensure there is plenty liquid to cover the meat. Cooks on Depression for 10-12 hrs, and is just perfect! I brand "pot roast burritos" with the leftovers...hubby loves those! :) An EASY, no-hassle, tasty pot roast!!! *note - close all of your chamber doors when you lot turn on the crock or else your rooms volition odor like pot roast for days...)
x/28/2007
I accept been doing pot roast like this for years. The bonus is, make an extra roast at the aforementioned fourth dimension, or use leftover roast and broth left in cooker for beef and noodles, or chop leftover beefiness and veggies ad back to broth, add frozen mixed veggies, chopped cabbage, and a lilliputian V8 juice and you have succulent homemade beef vegetable soup!!!!!!!!!
01/21/2010
WOW!!! Let me tell you lot, I have tried to make pot roast several times already merely I gave up because the meat ended up being dry out. I used stewing beef, rump roast, and other cuts. Now I know YOU MUST Use CHUCK ROAST...that'due south what makes this recipe super! I took the advice of other reviewers and rubbed the meat with Montreal Seasoning but I did not brown it--merely put information technology in the crockpot. I besides used a can of beef broth instead of water. I added vegetables half way through and used carmine potatoes because it's non as starchy as white. My son said the beefiness simply melts in your mouth! Tasty, succulent and great comfort food! I've ever wanted a expert beef roast/stew recipe and now I have it! THANK YOU, Marie, for sharing and telling us to use the right cut of beef!

I was feeling a little 50's homey and wanted to feed my family something lumberjack hearty, and so pot roast was an piece of cake determination. All the same, never having made it before, I wanted to try this recipe since information technology promised two important things: moist + juicy. I layered the bottom of the crock pot with baby carrots, halved celery stalks and quartered crimson potatoes. And then, I combined the onion soup mix with 1 can of beef broth and poured it over all. The 2.5 lb roast was adjacent. I rubbed it with minced fresh garlic, pepper and salt, so gave it a quick sear in olive oil. The roast then joined the veggies in the crockpot, and the remaining olive oil + pan juices were poured over all. Our dinner cooked for 14 hours on low, which in the end, would have been amend at 12 hours. Nevertheless, information technology was delicious! Our veggies weren't mushy at all, the savory onion taste had thoroughly absorbed into everything, and there wasn't even a need to make gravy. Next time though, I'll make the potatoes separately. I thought they took away too much of the flavor, and will add together lots more carrots + celery, and but a touch of water to end up with more juice at the finish. This tasted much better the 2nd day as leftovers, but the meat hasn't lost whatsoever of its autumn apartiness that my family loves. Would definitely brand this again with a few tweaks.

My 87 year erstwhile Dad prefers hot meals for supper even in the summer. I fabricated this crockpot meal to avoid heating upwardly the house. Because it was just him and me, I only used a 2 pound chuck roast. Adjacent time I'm making a bigger ane. This was fabulous! Dad raved about it and be both wished we had more leftovers. A very like shooting fish in a barrel just absolutely delicious repast!
02/24/2014
Really loved the roast. It was tender, juicy and cut with a fork. Still, I made a error. I used both the dry out onion soup mix and vegetable broth. I should take used one or the other. Had I added actress salt, it would have been way too salty. Side by side time I make this, and I absolutely Will make it again, I'll take intendance to watch the salt content. I'd much rather add together more than to my plate than risk the dish being over salty. And I did add actress carrots and potatoes. With a 3 pound chuck roast, I added at least vi nice size potatoes and two pounds of carrots. Information technology was a terrific meal, served with nice hot biscuits.
12/15/2008
Very tasty roast. Quick notes: 1/ii the soup mix, information technology can make it way too salty (add maple syrup to cut of need exist), sear with steak seasoning, de-glaze with ruddy wine and add together to the tiresome cooker. Worcestershire works well (don't over practice it though or you are back to the salty problem). Toss in a bay leaf and yous are good to become. Accept tried this a few times and am constantly tweaking, but follow other suggestions and add your own flair and you will be laughing all the way to the dinner table.
03/22/2011
This was my first pot roast E'er, and it was and so easy! I've fabricated it twice, and I've always used a roast that was less than 3 lbs. I used beef broth instead of water and threw in tons of extra veggies. I besides took the communication of some of the other reviews and added Worcestershire sauce and used a Montreal Steak rub on the meat before browning. I've left this roast to cook for up to ten hours on low, and it'south turned out great both times!
12/14/2008
add 1/iv loving cup carmine vino, 8 oz. mushrooms, iv cloves garlic, and 14 oz. can beef broth. Thicken gravy with a 2 oz. brown roux.
x/25/2008
A very skillful basic slow cooker roast. Later reading reviews, I made a few changes...I inserted slivered garlic into roast; browned the roast on all sides, then removed to the slow cooker. I browned an additional onion in the skillet, and then deglazed the pan with 1 cup of blood-red wine, instead of adding water. I added 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, the soup mix, then poured it over the roast. I cooked on loftier for 4 hours, added the veggies, then cooked some other four on low. My unabridged family loved it. Next fourth dimension, I'll brown sliced mushrooms to add together to the mix!
12/21/2011
Great simple and tasty recipe!!
07/thirteen/2010
I simply take to say; why would anyone ruin a adept tasting dish with that awful onion mix. It'southward and so fake an salty and overpowering.
01/xxx/2012
This was cook in your oral cavity delicious! I used a 2.v lb chuck and let it go for 9-x hours. Information technology was falling apart and was perfect! I, like other reviewers used low sodium beefiness broth. I made upwardly my own rub and used that earlier browning it in the pan (Kosher salt, fresh ground pepper, reddish pepper flakes, paprika, and garlic pulverization). I made a gravy from the leavings in the crock pot and that was delicious as well (Just the juice/goop with a cornstarch/water mixture -- added some salt and pepper). I also used Yukon Golden potatoes. Those or red potatoes are really best for this kind of matter. They hold together better than Russet. I just ate some leftovers for lunch and they were merely as good as last night. Mmmmmmm!
05/05/2013
First-class recipe. I added several cloves of garlic, 2 cups red wine instead of 1 cup h2o, spiced three.3 lb chuck with Montreal spice earlier browning it, added bay leaves, used the onion mix, doubled potatoes and carrots just did not add them until half way through. I also ran out of time so I cooked it for five+ hours on high. Anybody loved it!
xi/27/2013
If its cooked too long the veges will be mushy and the roast will fall apart so much it's almost like soup! Calculation the veges half way through leaves a tastier pot roast that isn't mush! great flavour with the soup packet!
09/17/2006
Yum - what great comfort nutrient! I used a smaller roast (2.v lbs) so information technology was actually done in five hours. As the meat rested before carving, I strained the vegetables from the juice and stirred in a slurry of cornstarch on the stovetop. Afterwards boiling a couple of minutes, I had a thick delicious gravy to pour over the meal. I highly recommend serving dinner rolls aslope to sop upward the gravy. Definitely a do-over recipe in this house!
x/28/2008
I fabricated this roast yesterday in my new crock pot and wow it was sooo skilful. I browned a 3.5 lb chuck roast on the stove in a fiddling extra virgin olive oil and salt and pepper and so slow cooked information technology with the residuum of the ingredients for 5.5 hours on low and information technology fell apart. I used crimson skinned potatoes which I call up next time I volition put in an 60 minutes after everything else. Oh yeah, I substituted beef broth for the water. With the left over roast I shredded it and added Sweet Baby Rays bbq sauce and my husband and I had information technology on hamburger buns tonight for dinner. Thank you for a great recipe Marie!
01/22/2014
I've been using this recipe for years. I'm a piddling surprised past the review that said it turned out tasteless. You can add together your ain touches to suit your taste, equally I have from time to time just you tin can't lose with this basic recipe. It has always come up out a winner.
11/13/2010
This was my very showtime time making a pot roast, and it turned out great! I rubbed the chuck roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning and garlic powder and browned it in olive oil, as others had suggested. I cooked it on HIGH for 5 hours, adding the veggies in during the concluding hr (and so they didn't plough to mush). Yummyyyy!!!
03/12/2009
FABULOUS!! It took only 20 minutes to prep! The merely things I inverse were (1) browned the meat before putting information technology in the crock pot and (two) I used a small pocketbook of infant carrots instead and (three) I seasoned the meat with table salt, pepper, & garlic pulverisation before cooking. It cooked from 10am to 7:30pm and it was perfect. But as proficient as my moms. I also made this recipe another time and instead of using the onion soup mix I used McCormick's Slow Cooker Savory Pot Roast Seasoning..came in a pouch like taco seasoning. But mix with 1 loving cup water and pour over the meat & veggies. It was good too!!
12/21/2006
This potroast using the slow cooker is great. Earlier I brownish the roast, I usually glaze it with a thin layer of flour. It helps the browning and also adds to the gravy.
12/12/2005
Wonderful, simple comfort nutrient. I used a three.five lb chuck and pressed Montreal seasoning into the beef prior to browning. I added beef stock instead of water, a couple glugs of red and white wine (think french onion soup), and a can of stewed tomatoes. I omited the potatoes, and served mashed on the side. I made a gravy of a couple cups of the broth. Afterward ten hours on low this was tender and succulent! Thank you lot!
02/09/2013
This is an absolute FAVORITE pot roast recipe--with a few modifications. The meat is always ridiculously tender, full of flavor, and tastes amazing! The changes we made are pretty simple-- I use 1 or 2 cans of beefiness broth instead of the 1c water (depending on the size of roast, 3.5lbs+ ii cans, less than 3lbs 1can) I flavor the meat with either a montreal steak seasoning or some other seasonings we have handy (garlic table salt, onion powder, pepper, maybe some paprika, any) and and then sear in either a modest corporeality of balsamic vinegar or olive oil. I similar lots of vegetables and so we double the vegetables and add together one-half at the beginning (mushy vegetables as a result) but the other half a few hours earlier the cease so they are cooked merely not mushy (this is why i add the extra broth since i have lots of extra veggies). I have besides used the beefy onion dry soup mix a few times merely actually couldn't tell much divergence betwixt normal onion soup mix--so i use whatsoever is on paw.
10/thirteen/2008
Very tender and flavorful. So I would not finish upwards with mushy veggies I put onions on bottom of cooker, added meat(later browning), soup parcel, 1 cup water and 1 loving cup beef broth and cooked that on high for 2 hours and low for 1 hour before adding tater chunks and infant carrots and cooking on low another 3 hours. Perfectly tender meat which was non falling apart and sliced nicely and the veggies were soft merely not mushy. Also makes succulent gravy.
01/27/2010
Easy, like shooting fish in a barrel, like shooting fish in a barrel! And the meat was so expert. I seasoned the meat with Montreal Steak seasoning and dusted with flour (used a chuck roast). Started information technology cooking in the AM with simply the liquid (I added only a piddling more), soup mix, celery, onion and some garlic. I added the carrots, potatoes a couple hours before it was done. The meat fell apart and had a overnice flavor to it, the veggies were cooked well non mushy and the gravy was so yummy. Super and piece of cake definitely a keeper!
01/18/2009
I've tried this recipe for the offset time in December and it has become one of my favorite. Taking several advices from other Cooks who reviewed this recipe, I completely substitute water with beefiness broth, add the vegetables about 3/4 the fashion subsequently the meat, and instead of salt and pepper to taste the meat, I use a seasoned table salt.
09/12/2006
What a smashing recipe!! I played with it a footling flake & used other reviewer'southward ideas. I rubbed meat tenderizer, garlic pulverization, course ground pepper & crushed red pepper on it earlier I browned it. Used a can of beef broth, parcel of onion soup mix & beefy onion soup mix, worcestershire sauce, fresh mushrooms, carrots, celery & potatoe. Kept calculation a lilliputian bit of common salt, pepper & crushed carmine pepper as it cooked. It was autumn apart-melt in your mouth tender with a little kick to it! Everyone loved it.
11/nineteen/2003
Keen recipe. For a beefier season, I used a loving cup of canned beef broth, instead of the water, and a nuance of Worcestershire sauce. This was a dandy dinner. I just threw information technology in the crockpot effectually 2, and since my roast was about half the size called for, it was done around vii. Cheers for the recipe : )
03/11/2012
Family really liked information technology. Seasoned chuck roast with salt, onion pulverisation, garlic pulverization, mustard and a niggling cayenne. Seared in skillet on all sides. Placed in crock pot for 6 hours. Instead of water used chicken broth and added 2 bay leafs. Didn't add onion or celery because we didn't take whatsoever and we didn't miss it. Added my potatoes ii hours earlier it was done, carrots and fresh dark-green beans 1.5 hours before done and and then scattering of mushrooms 15 min before serving. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Veggies were not mush and had great flavor. Only enough left for husband adjacent solar day and he didn't heed eating information technology at all.
03/xix/2007
This was sooooo good! I did rub the roast with seasonings and a little flour before I browned on both sides. I too used 1 cup beef goop and one/ii loving cup of h2o. I fabricated a little gravy out of pan drippings and added at terminal minute to thicken. Volition definitely be cooking this one a lot. Thanks.
05/07/2007
I made this recipe this night and it was the best roast we have ever had (so my married man put information technology):) I read the reviews earlier cooking it and took the advice of some of the cooks. I used beefiness broth instead of water I added garlic and monteral steak seasoning. My roast was only nigh 2 1/2 pounds but I let it cook for eleven hours and it was better than ever before. The vegtables were falling apart forth with the meat. Thank you for the recipe and all the inputs too.
04/28/2013
I merely want to say that aye, you lot demand to use Chuck Roast, and other than whatever spices you want to add, all I take ever done to have a perfect roast is to put the roast in the crockpot WITHOUT browning, and I don't add vegy's to the pot. This way, you don't need to add together whatsoever liquid. I add the onion soup mix and mayhap some actress onions, but that's it. Very basic. I cook it on high for four to five hours. DONE! It simply falls apart...love it, dear it, love information technology!
03/22/2010
I browned the roast 1st & then cooked the onions in the same pot before adding to the crockpot. I used beef broth instead of the h2o & increased it to 2 cups. Admittedly delicious!
03/10/2014
Awesome Marie! I had a six pound chuck roast then I adjusted the recipe for 12 servings. Used ruddy potatoes, skin on, quartered. Everything was delicious. Had meat left over so have cut the meat into i inch cubes. Threw that into the crockpot with a mix of dry onion soup, water and cream of mushroom soup. Will throw all that on height of apartment egg noodles this night. Walla, beef stroganoff! Thanks for sharing your recipe. Melt on!
01/22/2003
This was simple to fix and very good. My two teens LOVED it. The gravy is more than "au jus" and so it can be sopped up with bread. For leftovers, I shreaded the meat and it was even better. Instead of only using salt and pepper when I browned the meat, I used a season all type of seasoning and the season was full and rich. Definately a keeper.
02/18/2009
This was really good and I knew it would be. I did add a cup of crimson vino and a can of gilt cream of mushroom for thicker gravy but I know it would have been fine without it.
04/28/2011
succulent! i browned the meat as stated and that made all the difference in the way it came out (equally opposed to how i used to slow cook it before). thanks for the recipe
09/19/2000
This was the first fourth dimension I have ever made a roast in the slow cooker, and it was oh-then-easy! And, it was very good! I used babe carrots and new potatoes (quartered)and it was gear up to go in just a few minutes! My iv year one-time girl loved information technology!
eleven/20/2013
This is the recipe from the Lipton soup mix box. Has been there forever! I don't like the mode the veggies are overcooked in this recipe. It is skillful but there are better. Adept for novice cooks.
02/13/2013
I've used this recipe many, many times, but accept made several changes to information technology. I similar to coat a couple of sides of the roast with Grillmates steak seasoning (very peppery and has common salt), and I also splash some worcestershire sauce on information technology the nighttime before and stick it in the fridge. The next forenoon, I sear the sides on the pan (with a little olive oil). I likewise apply beef broth (or chicken broth, whichever I happen to have at habitation) instead of h2o. I besides use small red potatoes and put them in whole. I cut all of my veggies in big chunks (onion is quartered, carrots in large chunks, etc.) For herbs/seasoning, I also add some thyme and rosemary and 4-vi cloves of minced garlic. Delicious!

Followed the recipe as shown....just like my mom used to go far :)

I made this for dinner this by Sunday. It was extremely piece of cake and the meat was melt in your mouth moist. I felt withal that it lacked some flavour. I think side by side time I volition add some worcestershire sauce to information technology. I volition definitely make this once more though, thank you.

This was wonderful pot roast! I used the Montreal Steak Seasoning and browned the meat alee of time, and boy was that tasty! It added so much flavor. And I call back browning the meat ahead of time seals in some of the moisture so that the roast is extra moist. I also used a can of beef goop instead of water. Yum!

I impressed my parents with this one. We all loved information technology - very moist and tender - not overcooked. It was proficient for leftovers as well. I have a smaller, older crock pot, so I had to cut the roast (about 4 lbs.) into two chunks, then pile the veggies around information technology. Afterward the start repast, I cut up more veggies and boring-cooked them in the leftover juice and so that I would take plenty to go with the balance of the roast - excellent leftovers. Also, once you air-condition, the side by side twenty-four hour period you can skim off the congealed fat to reduce fat content. I liked the recipe as an easy and tasty way to get some nutritional veggies and cobweb - carrots, onions and celery.

Just fabulous!

Like shooting fish in a barrel and extremely succulent! I added extra carrots and potatoes as I have a large dull cooker. My husband loved this dish.

Followed the recipe with one exception. Before browning roast, I tied it. It cooked great and after removing cording, sliced and plattered the meat and vegs. Served with buttered noodles for those who wanted them and besides had mixed green Salad.

This was incredibly succulent. I used a three-pound chuck roast (which was fatter than I expected) and browned information technology on all sides. Subsequently I put the roast in the wearisome cooker, I looked at the $.25 in the pan and decided to deglaze information technology with a fiddling (perchance 3-iv Tbsp) balsamic vinegar. Next I poked 4 peeled and smashed garlic cloves in the roast and poured the thickened balsamic on it. So I put a large sliced white onion on pinnacle and sprinkled the onion soup mix over that. Finally, I poured the water over everything and put it in the fridge. Around midnight, I took it out of the fridge and put information technology in the cooker on low. When I woke upwardly at 7, I added three/four pound of infant carrots and another large white onion (sliced). After about another hour, I noticed the roast was falling apart, so I took it out and covered it with foil while everything else cooked some other 2 hours. Then I drained off the liquid and allow it separate (because my roast was so fat). I skimmed off equally much of the fat and put the roast, carrots, and onions back in the pot, followed by the skimmed liquid and left it on warm until it was gear up to serve. The roast was fork tender and full of flavor. I served it with rice, carrots, and onions. I look frontwards to eating the leftovers. I volition make this again! Thanks for sharing, Marie.

This was excellent.Start pot roast I've always made, chose a marbley chuck roast as directed. Replaced the h2o with the beef broth. I too added garlic and a trivial actress onion soup for fear it wouldn't accept enough flavour, but I didn't need all that, the original recipe would take been totally fine. I think next time i'll just make it equally is with diluted beef broth. I alive alone and so making big things similar this, I need to be certain I can swallow it. And I did! Vegetables were perfectly done and yummy also!
04/25/2014
Extremely EASY and delicious I followed Lyrica42 recommendations and served up with some fresh sourdough breadstuff - perfect condolement food
xi/16/2013
I've made this recipe a dozen times or more than. It's perfect as is. No need to alter anything!
03/31/2014
I made this and used beefiness goop instead of the water and no celery because I didn't have whatever. It was he best roast I accept ever made. My married man agreed and the kids ate information technology up and had second and 3rds. "Mom, this is the best dinner ever."
03/18/2014
I cooked the pot roast without the potatoes and carrots. I did put in the onion and took a few garlic cloves and put them in the roast. It is the best I have ever made!
06/15/2011
Succulent! I rubbed the roast with body of water salt, cracked pepper, marjoram, thyme and paprika, then dusted with flour before browning. As well, used almost twice the corporeality of potatoes and carrots and added a niggling more water and three cloves of garlic. Just needed to add a picayune salt. Might use a vegetable stock base next fourth dimension.
11/02/2008
I made this for dinner tonight and got rave reviews from my married man and step son! The roast was tender and moist. I didn't apply the onion soup, but used beefiness bouillon dissolved in water instead. Browned in skillet westward/a tad bacon grease blackness pepper, body of water salt, onion powder before putting in deadening cooker. Used the aluminum foil balls to support the roast in cooker. I used the juice from the roast to make gravy; cooked potatoes, carrots and celery stalks at the end of the cooking time for the roast. Yummmmmmm Yummmmmmm!
03/fourteen/2010
YUM! I used this recipe for my offset pot roast always, and information technology was delish!! I added the potatoes halfway through cooking, per other reviewers' advice. Also used 1 can of beef broth and a footling garlic; otherwise, I fabricated the recipe as is. I cooked information technology on loftier for about six hours and it was perfect! And i tip* I used the crockpot liner bags that y'all buy in the grocery shop about the ziplock baggies, and information technology made clean up SO much easier! Didn't change the gustation or compromise the flavor a scrap! I will be making this recipe for years to come.
10/17/2013
This recipe was very piece of cake to follow and it turned out great. I didn't have viii hours so I put it on high for 6 hours and it was delish. I'one thousand certain it would have been very good at 8 to 10 on the low setting. I didn't chop up the carrots or onion. I just made big huge chunks because I was afraid they would be mushy if I cut them to small they turned out amazing. I put whole cherry-red potatoes on the top of all of it and they were just wonderful as well. I will CERTAINLY do this recipe again. Information technology's easy to make and has merely a few basic ingredients which was a big plus. I don't like having to go to the grocery to buy some expensive condiment or spice that I will never use once again. Thank you for a wonderful meal.
01/20/2015
So tasty! Turns out perfect every time! I like using scarlet potatoes instead of russet, and those don't get overcooked. Or sometimes I but go out the potatoes out and make mashed potatoes instead. Just use one-half a package of the mix. One is too much! I employ beefiness broth instead of water if I have it, I similar it much more than that mode. Don't use broth and a whole packet- it will be way too salty!
02/16/2014
Delicious!
02/07/2009
No need to chocolate-brown the roast (I have done it both means). I used my medium size crock pot w/ a iii# boneless Chuck Roast, rubbed information technology with (Blood-red Robin Seasoning &) sprinkled westward/ Common salt & Pepper. Put 1/2 package of Onion Soup Mix on it, poured 1 cup hot water, added iii lg potatoes & every bit many baby carrots I could all the same assuasive 1-two" clearance from top of crock as it is Important you don't overfill your crock pot for proper cooking. (Makers' suggest on filling information technology 75% full.) I cooked on HIGH for 5.5 hours then turned it down to Depression for the terminal 2 hours.... ~Wonderful Scent ....TO Die FOR!! 2ND-TIME-NOTES: Used BEEF BROTH instead of water (about ii cups), did not brown roast, used bag of fingerling potatoes & cooked on Depression for x 1/ii Hours. YUMMY!
09/24/2013
This is a great recipe! With a few modifications of form. I like to braise my roast in some olive oil. I had a 3.5lb roast. I added two cups of beef broth to the mix (I honey the "Better than Burgoo" brand, just I think the secret to the liquid is that I also like to add a can of beer to it. Any beer in the refrigerator, doesn't actually matter. I personally merely used a Bud Calorie-free. As per other reviewers, I added my potatoes, onion and carrots in at the half style point and saw no employ cut up the carrots equally they're small-scale plenty and easily cook in the time that's left.

This is pretty much the style I have always made pot roast. Only difference is that I don't ever brownish it first. But I practise put salt, pepper and flour all over the roast. This style, information technology makes information technology's ain gravy and is never lumpy. I use different seasonings - depending what I have on hand. I have used steak seasoning, seasoned common salt, garlic salt, etc. They all piece of work fine and are a matter of sense of taste. I use beef goop and bulky onion soup. For veggies I use potatoes (for average size potatoes, I quarter them, for big potatoes I cutting them into 6 or 7 pieces), ii average size onions quartered and carrots (baby or regular). I use lots of potatoes because DH and sons love them this mode. This along with some rolls is 1 of our favorite dinners. I cook on low in the crock pot for about 10 hours while I am at work. The house smells sooooo gooooood when we come home!
09/29/2010
I gave this 4 stars because I made some changes. First, I only used a two lb roast. I followed the advice of others and rubbed Montreal Steak Seasoning on information technology and browned information technology in a cast atomic number 26 skillet. I as well substituted 1 cup beef broth for the water. When I came domicile from work, the firm smelled incredible! Broiled some crescent rolls and DH and were in sky!
11/16/2010
I've made this pot roast 2 Sundays in a row. And I will probably continue making it every Sun. SO, So, GOOD. I used a boneless chuck roast. Vegetables and meat done to perfection. So easy, and tasted and then great. Thank you for a great recipe that I will use once again and again.
05/nineteen/2011
Tasty and tender. I seasoned with lots of Montreal Seasoning simply I didn't remember it was necessary to use beefiness broth as some suggested, so I used 3/4 c. water and 1/4 c. red vino, and I will exercise the same next time. I left the peel on my small red whole potatoes and cut the carrots into largish chunks, and they were just right afterward cooking all day on depression. I did leave out the celery and next fourth dimension will add more carrots. Cheers!
04/22/2014
Followed the recipe but did use Montreal Steak Seasoning & added two cloves of garlic. It was very expert but seemed to be missing something to requite it a little more flavor. Will employ this again. Thanks!
12/17/2008
My commencement pot roast! It came out a little tough i cooked on loftier for 4hrs, my mom-in-law says if on high i should take cooked for 3hrs merely overall the taste was very good, everyone ate information technology all. cheers for a cracking recipe, def volition make again.
10/24/2013
I didn't go to try this but my boyfriend RAVED about it. He said it was the best meal I accept fabricated- which saddens me slightly since information technology was so easy to fix. I took a few other comment's suggestions and added some Worchestire- and as well browned the meat with garlic powder, McCormick steak seasoning, salt and pepper. Then threw everything into the crockpot and permit it cook for the viii hours. Overall rating (from the swain)= AMAZING. Definitely a keeper.
02/19/2014
acceptable.
10/18/2011
So yummy! The meat falls apart only like a perfec pot roast should. I followed other's advice and used Montreal Steak seasoning and am glad I did. I likewise subbed beef broth for the water. There is plenty juice in the pot after cooking to make gravy. Great recipe!
11/17/2010
Mine turned out peachy. The only reason I give four stars is considering I changed it slightly. Instead of water I used beef broth, and I added a larger diversity of veggies. I took a little of the broth when it was done and mixed in a petty flour to make gravy. The roast was autumn autonomously perfect and the gravy was crawly. I will make it once again with those minor changes.
10/02/2011
Instead of the onion soup mix, I added 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce to the goop and inserted i bay foliage into the roast, discarding the bay leaf earlier serving the roast. IMHO, the roast was even meliorate- without those pesky onion $.25 from the soup mix in the broth.
08/27/2013
Will try this recipe this week! If the meat is bland, try using a knife to make holes all over the roast and stuff with a whole clove of garlic in each along with salt, pepper and any other dry seasoning yous may like. trust me the garlic gives not bad flavor!
10/17/2010
I loved the flavor of this pot roast! I followed the recipe completely other than using beefiness goop instead of water to be able to make delicious gravy at the end. I felt that 8 hours was the perfect time for this. Others have said to look to add together the vegtables until half way through, but I don't recollect they would have been as good if I would have done that. I used whole baby carrots, onions cutting into fourths, and largely cubed russet potatoes. I idea they were the perfect texture with having simmered the entire time. Simply a very little crunch merely soft enough to melt in your mouth. I'd recommend calculation them at the get-go if you lot like your veggies soft!
01/xviii/2008
Fabulous!!! I doctored this up a bit by calculation iv cloves of chopped garlic to the irksome cooker afterwards the meat, veggies and soup mix were in. I likewise used salt, pepper and season-all on the meat when I browned it in the skillet. I have a 5 quart slow cooker and used five pounds of chuck roast, 6 pocket-sized/medium ruby potatoes, a pocket-size bag of infant carrots, 3 celery stalks, about a 1/2 cup chopped onions and the garlic, . My slow cooker was FULL! I think the onion soup mix is what makes this sooooo practiced! I let is cook on low for 8 hours, only opened the deadening cooker lid twice - and it came out Fabulous!!! My family unit LOVED it and my hubby fifty-fifty said this is better than any he's had in a restaurant before. This is my new favorite slow cooker recipe and volition be fabricated many more times!! :)
09/19/2008
THE All-time EVER!!!!!! The meat was so ridiculously tender!!! It literally melted in your rima oris! I did marinate my meat overnight(in italian dressing) and I too took the advice of previous reviewers with a few other changes: dissolve 2 beef boullion cubes in the h2o earlier adding it in (you could use ane can of beefiness goop for the aforementioned outcome), and add 3 cloves of garlic, chopped too. I also added i tsp cayenne pepper to requite it some kicking. When information technology was done, I could barely go on my boyfriend out of the pot long enough to actually serve it up! Oh I can't say plenty almost this roast- it was THAT skilful! I will be reusing this recipe many many more times. Thanks sooo much Marie!
11/02/2008
Exactly what you think of when yous think of pot roast. Just perfect! I lightly floured mine and then browned it - this way information technology made its own gravy; no need to thicken the juices.
05/23/2010
Didn't need ANY liquid in my slow cooker for perfection. Cooked nine hours and had plenty of liquid when done. Don't add carrots or potatoes until last hour or they'll go mushy. I similar turnips done this way.
01/xiii/2010
This was fantastic! Based on the other reviews, dipped the meat in a flour and flavor mixture before browning. One thing I like about the recipe is that it is a everything just the kitchen sink every bit far equally seasoning goes. Whatsoever I had, I threw in to the flour mixture. I assembled everything the nighttime before and threw information technology in the refrigerator. I cooked on high for an hour equally soon as I got up in the forenoon so switched it to low and cooked from 8-six. The meat and vegetables were out of this world. The potatoes were soft simply not mushy simply next fourth dimension, I might omit them and serve over mashed potatoes. Volition definitely make again.
